I don’t hate the Connecticut Sun. In fact, I think they are a pretty cool team, considering their origin, where they play, their history, and the players currently on the team. They are one of the four best teams in the NBA and their recent unbeaten streak really cemented them as a title contender in 2024. But IDK I just find the team a little boring sometimes. I also found the 2023-4 Boston Celtics a little boring as well and they are about to win an NBA title. It’s not that they are uninspired, rather the opposite. They are just so well-rounded without any achilles heels that they are almost boring. The roster’s most interesting debate is who is the better Robin to Alyssa Thomas’ Batman – DeWanna Bonner or Brionna Jones?

The Chicago Sky used to be one of my favorite teams. They were my favorite team in 2020 when I first followed the WNBA and bought my league pass after Allie Quigley performed so well in that lockdown era horse on ESPN. Anyone remember that. I loved her, her relationship with teammate Courtney Vandersloot and flipped when the team won the title in 2022. But Courtney has since left the team (to join superteam and very interesting New York Liberty) and Allie Quigley has left the WNBA. It is fun to watch Angel Reese adn Kamila Cardoso now but the team seems so uneven with a focus on the post – that even when they win it feels like they shouldn’t.

Angel Reese did score a double-double however and did keep in closer than it should have been – and honestly, even if the stats are not there yet and I’m not there yet, I think there are plenty of indicators that Angel Reese could be the best player coming out of this class not named Caitlin Clark. Although there’s a chance she could be the best player period. I admit, I don’t love the anti-CC energy coming form the Sky when they play the fever but I also get it. Rivals need rivals for them to be rivals. And these two teams – with their rookies already having a built in competitive history and the teams being so close in proximity, have the potential to become incredible rivals over the next decade. But look, this game was so boring that I’m talking Fever/Sky!!!!

So going into this game, I was pretty sure that the Sun were going to win – and they did. And it was very boring.
